College Facilities:
Are the College library and other facilities sufficient to support teaching/learning activities?

Let's look at this question using two common examples - the library and group work facilities

The Library:
While the library is a very useful resource to your students, it is not an unlimited resource. For example, there will be limitations to the books students can take out, the hours they can enter the library and to the numbers of books available. For some, the financial strain of buying their own text books would cause considerable difficulty and so will not be an option.

To ensure the library can fully support your students consider the following as you design your teaching.

Are the texts supporting my teaching available in sufficient numbers within the library?
Are my undergraduate students able to check out my key texts?

Close communication with subject librarians regarding the contents of reading list, and the use of counter reserve, can help ensure availability of these resources for students.

Group Work Facilities:
Again, group work is often a worthwhile learning tool. However, as you set group work tasks consider the facilities available to students.

Can you provide group work facilities to your students? Will your students have the time / opportunity to meet up (remember, students on placements, those with greater classroom hours, and those with significant external responsibilities will have less chance than others).

Also, consider that group cannot meet and talk freely in the library, and so undergraduate groups have no access to non SLEN books. When setting a group work task try to be aware of the difficulties students can face in finding a space to work together .

When answering this question if you are confident that your teaching/learning activities are adequately supported by the College facilities tick yes. If however you do not believe this to be the case tick no, and if you are unsure as to whether or not the facilities are sufficient then tick unsure.
